The largest airline in Russia, Aeroflot, was the target of a cyberattack on Monday, which resulted in the grounding of flights throughout the country.
Although there are still little details available about the cyberattack, Belarusian hackers and Silent Crow, a pro-Ukrainian hacker collective notorious for attacking Russian companies, claimed credit for it, pointing to Russia’s takeover of Ukraine.
TechCrunch was able to view the post on Telegram, in which the group claimed to have taken over Aeroflot’s vital systems, including terabytes of internal data.
As stated by the group, it “destroyed” the accessible systems of airline. According to the hackers’ screenshots, they have access to multiple systems of Aeroflot airline in Russia, including the company’s internal active directory of users.
On Monday, the website of Aeroflot was down, it displayed an error message stating that it had been “temporarily restricted.”
Inside a Russian airport, footage shows a departure screen with all flights canceled.
Russian prosecutors stated in a statement that over 60 flights were canceled due to a “hacker attack.”
