LNER confirms Data Breach after facing Cyber Attack

London North Eastern Railway (LNER), one of UK’s major train operators, has been hit by a cyber attack. LNER has confirmed that it’s third-party supplier which manages files have been breached.

Although no banking details, payment cards & password has been leaked in this event but some personal data including names, contact details and customer previous journey data has been leaked.

LNER stated in its press release

“We have been made aware of unauthorised access to files managed by a third-party supplier, which involves customer contact details and some information about previous journeys,”

“Importantly, no bank, payment card or password information has been affected.

“We are treating this matter with the highest priority and are working closely with experts and with the supplier to understand what has happened and to make sure appropriate safeguards are in place.”

The train service provider, LNER, has took all the necessary precautions following the cyber attack and paused some of its messaging services and marketing emails. LNER Assistant, a messaging service which provides live updates regarding journey, such as platform information and delay updates has been suspended temporarily.

After the security breach, the train operator has emphasized that customers should not respond to any confirmation calls or emails regarding the further personal or financial information.

The train operator has also confirmed that no operations has been affected as a result of the breach and ticket purchase or booking services are functioning normally.

LNER has urged its customers to reset the passwords using it’s official website and maintain strong & unique passwords.
