Apple Collaborating With Nvidia And Google For AI Powered Siri

By

Apple is collaborating with Google and Nvidia to power the upcoming, AI-powered Siri, according to a story published in The Information. However, this is not your typical collaboration; Apple will heavily rely on Google’s Gemini AI model and Nvidia’s Blackwell CPUs.

Google’s Gemini technology will be used in the upcoming generation of Apple Foundation Models, which will provide as the foundation for the new Siri and other Apple Intelligence capabilities, according to a brief joint statement released by Apple and Google early this year.

“Apple and Google have entered into a multi-year collaboration under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology. These models will help power future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri coming this year.

After careful evaluation, Apple determined that Google’s Al technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and is excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for Apple users. Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute, while maintaining Apple’s industry-leading privacy standards.”

Given that Apple is typically recognized for either diversifying or developing its products internally, this is an intriguing change in approach. But according to the most recent source, a licensed version of Gemini will conduct some Siri queries on Google Cloud.

Additionally, Nvidia’s Blackwell B200 processors, which have an integrated confidential computation capability that encrypts data while it’s being processed on the chip, will be used in Google’s data center.

In this manner, even though some of the queries are running on a third-party cloud rather than Apple’s servers or devices, Apple is covering all the bases in terms of security and privacy.

The initial version of the more intelligent Siri is probably going to be released in September.
