Resident Evil Requiem Producer Confirms ‘The mini-game is already in its final stages’

Director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa talked about the creation, release, and future plans of Resident Evil Requiem in an interview with Denfaminico Gamer.

In a video released last month, Nakanishi thanked fans for their support of Resident Evil Requiem and informed them that a mini-game would be introduced to the game in May, along with future story DLC.

Nakanishi stated in this new interview that the next mini-game won’t be playable until the main plot is finished. Kumazawa advised gamers to try to finish the game before Japan’s Golden Week holiday, which runs from April 29 to May 6, in order to be prepared for the mini-game’s release.

Nakanishi said via machine translation:

“Regarding the additional story DLC, all I can say at this stage is that it’s currently in full production, so please look forward to it. However, development on the mini-game is already in its final stages.”

He verified the following when asked if the minigame would only be played by one person:

“That’s right. As we’ve mentioned, it’s a mini-game, and it’s strictly based on the battles in the main game. That said, I think players who’ve cleared the main game and are thinking ‘I still want to go wild’ will find these exciting and fun, so please sharpen your tomahawks and stay tuned.”

Kumazawa then added:

“This mini-game is unlocked once you complete the main story. So, if you’re planning to play it, I think clearing the main story during Golden Week will be just the right time.”

Nakanishi used an image of the protagonist Leon embracing an unidentified woman to hint at the future story DLC in his announcement last month. This may allude to a subtle plot twist that occurred at the end of Requiem, when many players saw that Leon was wearing a wedding ring, leading them to wonder who his partner might be.

Denfaminico Gamer questioned whether the mystery surrounding Leon’s wedding ring would ever be uncovered in the new interview. Nakanishi answered:

“Yes. That ‘some day’ isn’t now, though. I’d always thought it was simply meant to portray Leon’s changes as he got older, and that in the conclusion of Requiem, the identity of his partner wasn’t important – but I suppose that’s not quite the case, is it?”

He clarified that he meant the ring to be subtle:

“If we emphasized it in that scene, it would distract from everything else. Especially for Leon fans. So, I intended to make it just subtle enough that players would later think: ‘Huh? Wait, is he wearing a ring?’”
