Thanks to interface of Gemini with Google Docs, users can now provide foundational instructions that will be remembered for all projects.
Today, Google Docs will update its instruction settings to reflect Gemini’s new behavior. Users will now be able to command the agent to set persistent formatting, tone, and style when interacting with it on the side panel.
Google explains:
Users can add instructions and rules using Gemini in the side panel of Docs such as “Always respond in bullet points,” “When summarizing Docs, always include a 3 bullet points at the top.”” or “Use a concise and professional tone for all my documents.”
The repetitious nature of expressing how you want your work to look is addressed by persistent instructions for Gemini. Given that the upgrade is now available, it feels like a fitting advancement in Google Docs.

The “sources” page that the pill opens under each response will display each current instruction. According to Google, previously established instructions will be listed in the Gemini customisation section of the Google Docs settings. Users will be able to monitor the guidelines Gemini is following for its responses.
The upgrade will limit each Google Account in the United States and English to 1,000 active instructions. For the time being, Google has not disclosed which other regions would be covered. Additionally, it seems that the new feature is only available to Google AI Plus users and above, excluding Gemini’s free edition.
