Google Search Bar Getting AI MakeOver, Glasses Are Back

Google declared on Tuesday that it would add a significant amount of artificial intelligence(AI) to its search bar, which is the focal point of the world’s most popular website. More than ten years after those who wore its original eyeglasses were called “glassholes” and laughed out of San Francisco, the internet giant is likewise attempting high-tech glasses once more.

At Google I/O, the company’s annual conference for software developers, Google executives said that the search box will now support lengthier and more precise queries than it did previously. These queries would be more like those individuals would ask each other than Search’s peculiar syntax.

The modifications in the search bar will direct consumers to interact with chatbot of Google directly . The company’s new artificial intelligence model, Gemini 3.5, which was unveiled that same day, serves as the foundation for the shift to search.

According to executives, Gemini will forecast longer texts than it does now based on what users have already entered. Additionally, a routine Google search may yield additional visual components and recommendations for interacting with Google’s AI to make a spreadsheet plan, a calendar invite, or another activity inside Google’s product family.

Elizabeth Reid, who is in charge of the product, stated that “Google Search is AI search” and described the modifications as the largest Google Search has seen in almost 30 years. On Tuesday, the desktop and mobile versions of Google Search will be updated internationally.

Instead of a list of links, a film touting the improvements displayed results that more closely resembled graphically enhanced versions of AI Overviews, the bulleted summary responses that Google Search now provides. By selecting the “Web” tab, users will still be able to select the original search option, which is a collection of links.

Google Search searches hit a record high last month, according to Reid. Queries to the chatbot-specific interface have risen every quarter since the launch of Search’s “AI Mode” a year ago, when a user converses with a Gemini-powered bot instead of going to a list of links. The Chrome browser’s search bar will immediately switch to AI mode if a user submits images, videos, or documents.

Josh Woodward, who is in charge of the flagship AI’s development, stated that Google Gemini aims to create “a universal assistant that’s personal, proactive, persistent.” The Gemini app has 900 million monthly users, which is still fewer than ChatGPT’s 900 million weekly users, according to the business.

With the inclusion of agents to Google’s flagship search product, which is used daily by billions of people, a specialized kind of AI has expanded from the sphere of tech-savvy, business-focused consumers to the broader consumer realm.

The ability to develop “information agents,” autonomous AI bots that can do in-depth research and provide summaries or action plans to a user, will be available to subscribers to Search’s AI Pro and Ultra plans. Based on user demands, a “generative user interface” feature will be able to produce personalized graphics and interactive components like dashboards.

In order to conduct research, shop, and schedule future travel, appointments, or recurring activities, a new agent feature called Gemini Spark will be able to access data from users’ Gmail, Google Calendar, and other Google products.

Google officials revealed “intelligent eyewear,” a collection of sunglasses and spectacles that will be on sale in the fall, in collaboration with partners Samsung and glasses manufacturers Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.

With built-in cameras, the glasses can capture images or movies and react to voice orders from users to Gemini. Since 2021, the Ray-Ban Meta, a voice-activated, camera-equipped pair of spectacles, has been sold by fellow tech company Meta in collaboration with eyeglasses major EssilorLuxottica.
